What does the proliferation of pharma ads in People magazine reveal?

Drugmakers spent $4.5 billion marketing prescription drugs in 2014, up from $3.5 billion in 2012, according to a recent article in the Washington Post. Notably, the U.S. and New Zealand are the only two countries in the world where pharmaceutical direct-to-consumer advertising is legal.
