ViralNova Just Got Bought for $100 Million – Has the Viral Publisher Shakeout Begun?

Traffic figures for viral content publishers have been all over the map, but in many cases they are headed in the wrong direction, as with ViralNova. Sites like PlayBuzz and Distractify.com are also off their the highs.
PlayBuzz, which derives about 70% of its traffic from Facebook, raised $16 million earlier this year. Distractify raised $7 million in Series A funding last year.
